Well, if it makes you crinkle your nose in disgust it could be a Voodoo Lily , in Latin: Dracunculus vulgaris. This one I have deep in my shade garden. It gives off a rotting horse flesh odor to attract flies for pollination. The smell is intense for only one day. The blossom is about 8 inches long; impressive but not the sort of flower you put into a bouquet unless it was for your worst enemy.

What an odd plant. I have several stapleaids that have flowers that smell like carion to attract flies, but the flowers are not as pretty as the Voodoo Lilly. Sort of reminds me of some people. They look good on the surface, but are just rotten! I wont' leave on that negative note, so hope you had a great GTS!

I love odd plants but if they stink too bad, I think I'll pass. I don't mind the smell of marigolds or lantana,,it is more a green smell to me,,,but rotting flesh,,that is where I draw the line. LOL

This is my mother in law-s garden. Wonder why she has planted one, and right behing her window? I thought it was not the real one, the stinking one, but she confirmed it is. What a shame, it is so beautiful...
